An aspiring photojournalist from a deeply dysfunctional family embarks on a quest to sort out her twisted history, in the process falling ever deeper into despair as she attempts to track down her long lost sister. Michaela was lost and lonely when she received that fateful phone call from the father she never knew, and now she can't help but wondering just how many more family secrets are waiting to be discovered. Later venturing into the desert to follow a series of perplexing clues, Michaela is drawn ever deeper into her family's twisted world of pilgrims and pyromania. As the fires begin to burn, a tormented Michaela is forced to choose between preserving her true heritage and enduring the suffering that's sure to follow, or attempting to summon the strength to strike out on her own and let the past turn to ash.
