一个跛子

Giman is born a cripple, in an established family of farmers. His father and brother are forced to join the romusha (forced labourers) during the Japanese occupation. Indonesia gains independence in 1945, but the Dutch tries to take it back as a colony. Giman’s grandmother is killed during an air strike. In order to survive, he has to lead an independent live. He lives with beggars and young pickpockets in the city of Jogja. The harsh life creates a sense of solidarity amongst the street-urchins. Then Giman is rescued when his father and brother find him in the dormitory for displaced children.
