剧情介绍
电影改编自1928年的著名歌剧《三便士歌剧》，故事背景发生在维多利亚时代的伦敦苏荷区，歹徒刀手梅克和乞丐帮头目的女儿未获得女方双亲同意，便私自结婚。梅克因为一名妓女的作证而被逮捕，但在前妻的协助下逃逸了。前妻的父亲是警察长。后来，梅克再次被出卖，这回是被他的岳父陷害。但在即将被吊死以前，新登基的女王赦他无罪，并晋封他为贵族。

It is clever of the director to play with techniques of epic theatre to pay homage to Brecht in a film about a film that Brecht was never able to make. Nevertheless, despite the delicately weaved structure and the seemingly righteous sarcasm, one couldn’t help feeling uneasy at the outdated preaching and the one-dimensional depiction of the artist.
