剧情介绍
Commissioned to mark the 70th anniversary of Partition next year, this series follows BBC journalist and newsreader Babita Sharma and journalist and former British soldier Adnan Sarwar, as they embark on an epic adventure.
The 1,800 mile border that separates India and Pakistan is the most contentious in the world. Based on the Radcliffe Line – drawn on a map in 1947 by the outgoing British government – it tore a continent in two, triggering the greatest single migration in human history.
It is a border that crosses some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes: inhospitable deserts, snow-capped peaks, lush deltas and megacities bursting with life. It divides two nations at odds – and is an enduring reminder of a troubled past and an uncertain future.
Seventy years after British rule, Babita and Adnan, both second-generation British Asians, returning to the country of their parents’ birth, travelling the length of the border on two parallel expeditions running from north to south, one in India and one in Pakistan, revealing at ground level contrasting countries, varied landscapes and proud people.
Seventy years since Partition, have the wounds of such a seismic split started to heal? Are there uplifting stories in among the horrors? Emotional and authentic, this tandem travelogue lays bare a continent divided.
