In 1957 during his self-imposed exile from the United States, Chaplin released a film that proved to be his final starring role, A King in New York. This film examines Chaplin's life in exile that help fuel the personal and political themes of his penultimate feature film, including interviews with his son, Michael, who played a central role in its story.
