representing hundreds of species. The film shows the care and maintenance of the animals
by the keepers, the work of the veterinarians and their staff and the visits to the zoo by

at the zoo and the inter-relatedness of the animal, human, ethical, financial, technical,
organizational and research aspects of operating the zoo.

怀斯曼展现了人类与被捕获动物间紧张矛盾的关系。一方面是参观者对动物表现的崇拜与欣赏，他们带着各种观察工具，仿佛没有那些则无从观察；另一方面是动物园员工对其所依赖的权威地位的维护，无论是驯化、饲喂还是健康看护，人与动物间始终是种非自然的平衡。所有的对象都在观察，并无真正的客观存在。

9.0 真是高作！动物是唯一不会受摄影机暗示影响的“活”的被摄对象，因为它们并不知摄影机为何物。而拍摄它们的所谓人，也不过是另一类会用摄影机的“活”的被摄对象罢了。真乃解剖单一场所的纪录片之典范，每一秒都迂回地围绕着根本性的问题行进，看完之后感受到的是对人类基本的存在的质疑。
